Kansas City

The Kansas City area now has a DSPM core group. Their meeting minutes for August, September and November are below. If you would like to join the group, contact Lisa Chomor through our e-mail address.

KC Core Group Meeting Minutes

November 1, 2000

5:30 PM

Present: Lisa Chomor, Michelle Jaycox, Dawn Frederick, Amy Schmidt, and Jan Smith.

Absent: Sarah Holland.

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 PM.

No introductions were needed.

The minutes from the September meeting were approved as read. There was no meeting in October.

The group shared copies of and discussed the following information:

    *Conference planning materials

    *E-mail from Don Carrick

*Code of Ethics from the National Alliance of DSPs

*Membership registration forms for DSP of MO

We formed the following work committees:

    *Lisa and Sarah= Facility planning

    *Jan and Amy= Marketing

    *Dawn and Michelle= Presenters

Members were asked to read over the Code of Ethics and provide feedback at our next meeting. Lisa will send all gathered feedback to Don Carrick. Members were also requested to share copies of the Code with as many DSPs and persons receiving supports as possible to solicit feedback and spread the word.

Members agreed that we will not have a formal meeting in the month of December; therefore, we will have a progress meeting of the working committees on November 30, at 3:30 PM or 5:30 PM at Aurora (whatever time accommodates most people).

The next meeting of the KC CORE Group will be on November 16, 2000. It will be at JCBS right after the Quality Forum meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM

KC Core Group Meeting Minutes

August 17, 2000

12:00 PM

Present: Lisa Chomor, Michelle Jaycox, Amy Schmidt, and Jan Smith.

Absent: Dawn Frederick, and Sarah Holland.

The meeting was called to order at 12 PM.

                    1. There were no minutes to review as the July meeting was cancelled.

2. Members discussed follow-up on assigned tasks. Michelle passed out the roster and members gave her additional changes and updates. Michelle will make needed corrections to our membership roster.

3. Lisa shared the letter that we received from Don Carrick of the St. Joe group. Members discussed their request to have our conference in January in order to provide them with feedback on the Code of Ethics. Members all agreed that January would be too soon for us to host a conference, especially with the holiday month of December right before that. Members had been tentatively working toward an April/May conference, but will offer any other support to the St. Joe group that we are capable of.

4. General discussion:

• Members discussed quality of life issues vs. necessary funding.

• Amy and Jan shared additional questions dealing with sexuality and relationships for the family member with DD from parents to add to our survey.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 PM

KC Core Group Meeting Minutes

September 21, 2000

11:00 AM

Present: Lisa Chomor, Michelle Jaycox, Dawn Frederick, Amy Schmidt, Jan Smith, and Sarah Holland.

The meeting was called to order at 11:30 AM.

  1. No introductions were needed.
  2. The minutes from the August meeting were approved as read.
  3. Follow up on assigned tasks:
  4. *Lisa has made contact with the printer regarding business cards and brochures. Nothing has been agreed upon so far. Hopefully we will have additional information by next month.

  5. New Business:
  6. *We need to begin actual planning for our conference next year.

*We need to make up a skeleton outline of preparations and committees that are needed to get it off the ground.

*Sarah gave great suggestions on possible themes, such as "Take it up a Notch", "Upping Your Standards", or "The Red Carpet Treatment".

*Sarah also had suggestions for some topics: 1. Abuse/neglect investigation process, 2. How are the various agencies tied together, and what are their expectations of DSP staff?, 3. CARF/licensure/surveys…how do they fit together?, and 4. The importance of getting your certification trainings as a DSP.

*Sarah is currently working on a network list of providers for a college class she is in. If anyone has resources to share with her, please forward copies to her.

  7. New tasks for members:
    1. Each person is to contact one professional who has experience with conference planning to obtain a basic outline for our planning process. Lisa will contact the Institute for Human Development, Sarah will contact Dan Stewart, and Michelle will contact Darla Wilkerson. Other members should think of who they know and make contact prior to the next meeting.
    2. We will review the skeleton outlines at the October meeting and we will form committees and brainstorm a list of assignments that need to be followed through on.
    3. All members will need to provide progress reports on their committee at the November meeting.
    4. We will not have a meeting in December; rather we will use that month to continue progress on committee assignments.
    5. Progress reports will be expected again at the January meeting.
    6. Lisa will get a copy of the Code of Ethics and forward it to each member.
  1. The next meeting of the KC CORE Group will be on October 19, 2000 at
